Efficacy of JAK STAT Pathways Inhibitors in Treatment of Patients With Rheumatoid Arthritis
Sponsor: Adel A.Gomaa
Summary
There is no treatment that could utterly cure Rheumatoid arthritis (RA), but the disease is mainly improved by conventional disease-modifying anti rheumatic drugs. Methotrexate and biological DMARDs as JAK-STAT inhibitors may be used to control and delay the progression of the disease and improve the quality of lives of patients. However, DMARDs have deleterious effects on human health. Several natural products have been reported to exert inhibitory effects on the JAK-STAT signaling pathway, including green tea extract, chamomile extract, and licorice extract.

Interventions
Green Tea Polyphenolics (EGCG)
this group took two GTE tablets with each tablet containing 300 mg of extract, equivalent to 90 mg of polyphenols twice daily (resulting in a total daily dose equivalent to 180 mg of green tea polyphenols) for 4 months
Chamomile (Matricaria recutita)
Patients in the second group received ChE by steeping two chamomile flower tea bags (2 g per bag) in half a cup of hot water once daily in the evening for 4 months, providing a total daily dose of 40 mg of total flavonoids per 4 g of chamomile flowers for four months
Licorice
Patients in third group received LE syrup, at a dose of 15 mL three times daily (200 mg licorice extract /day) for four months.
Placebo
The placebo tablets contained 100 mg of hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC) for four months
