Motor Learning Approaches in Periodontal Treatment Education
Sponsor: Ondokuz Mayıs University
Summary
This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of different motor learning approaches in preclinical non-surgical periodontal treatment education among dental students. Participants will be assigned to different educational approaches, including implicit learning, explicit learning, and analogical learning, during training for tooth surface cleaning procedures. Students' practical performance in tooth surface cleaning, clinical skill development, and perceptions regarding the educational process will be assessed using standardized practical evaluations and questionnaires. The findings of this study may contribute to improving evidence-based educational methods for teaching psychomotor skills in periodontal education and enhancing clinical training efficiency in dental education.

Interventions
Implicit Learning With Standard Training
Participants receive a single baseline periodontal training session using implicit motor learning strategies without additional reinforcement sessions.
Implicit Learning With Extended Training
Participants receive implicit motor learning instruction during baseline periodontal training followed by one additional practical training session lasting 60 minutes.
Implicit Learning With Distributed Training
Participants receive implicit motor learning instruction during baseline training followed by three separate distributed practical training sessions, each lasting 40 minutes.
Explicit Learning With Standard Training
Participants receive a single baseline periodontal training session using explicit motor learning strategies involving direct verbal instruction without additional reinforcement sessions.
Explicit Learning With Extended Training
Participants receive explicit motor learning instruction during baseline periodontal training followed by one additional practical training session lasting 60 minutes.
Explicit Learning With Distributed Training
Participants receive explicit motor learning instruction during baseline training followed by three separate distributed practical training sessions, each lasting 40 minutes.
Analogical Learning With Standard Training
Participants receive a single baseline periodontal training session using analogy-based motor learning strategies without additional reinforcement sessions.
Analogical Learning With Extended Training
Participants receive analogy-based motor learning instruction during baseline periodontal training followed by one additional practical training session lasting 60 minutes.
Analogical Learning With Distributed Training
Participants receive analogy-based motor learning instruction during baseline training followed by three separate distributed practical training sessions, each lasting 40 minutes.
