Evaluation of a DRG-Based Clinical Management Model in a High-Complexity Chilean Hospital
Sponsor: Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile
Summary
This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness and scalability of a clinical management model based on the use of Diagnosis-Related Groups (DRGs) in a high-complexity hospital in Chile. A quasi-experimental design will be used, comparing efficiency and quality indicators between patients managed under the new DRG model versus usual care.
Official title: Evaluation and Scaling of a Clinical Management Model Based on the Use of Diagnosis-Related Groups (DRG) to Improve Production Efficiency in a High-complexity Hospital in Chile.

Support medical decision making
Implementation of a system displaying clinical trajectories and indicators to support medical decision-making without altering medical treatments, diagnoses, or clinical decision.
Standard Care (in control arm)
Hospitalized patients receiving standard care according to current clinical protocols at the institution. Data for this group will be extracted from anonymized electronic medical records and the Minimum Basic Data Set (MBDS). These patients will not be exposed to the concurrent DRG coding model or visual clinical dashboards. The extracted data will match the selected DRGs (Case-Mix) of the intervention group to compare outcomes such as average length of stay (LOS), readmission rates, and in-hospital mortality, adjusted for risk and severity
