Comparison of Telerehabilitation and Usual Rehabilitation After Knee or Hip Surgery
Sponsor: Centre Hospitalier de Valenciennes
Summary
After knee or hip replacement surgery, rehabilitation helps patients regain mobility, improve muscle strength, and return to their daily activities. The TELEARTHROPOSTOP-G/H study aims to evaluate whether telerehabilitation, using a digital application at home, can improve physical function after knee or hip replacement surgery compared with usual rehabilitation alone. Participants will be randomly assigned to one of two groups. Both groups will receive standard rehabilitation during their stay at the Institut Stablinski rehabilitation center, including physiotherapy sessions and adapted physical activity sessions. Participants in the usual rehabilitation group will continue their rehabilitation independently at home after discharge, following standard practice. Participants in the telerehabilitation group will receive the same care and will also be trained to use a digital application before leaving the rehabilitation center. At home, they will be able to follow exercise videos selected by their therapist. The exercises can be adjusted over time to match their recovery. All participants will be asked to complete questionnaires about pain, joint function, physical activity, and quality of life. These questionnaires will be completed at the beginning of the study and again approximately 6 weeks and 3 months after surgery. Follow-up questionnaires will be completed remotely, by telephone or email. Participation in the study will last up to 3 months. The study aims to determine whether adding telerehabilitation to usual care can help patients recover their physical function after knee or hip replacement surgery.
