Inclusion Criteria: * age ≥ 18 years * critically ill patients with AKI in whom CRRT is planned Exclusion Criteria: * chronic kidney disease with eGFR\<30ml/min/1.73m2 * Chronic dialysis dependency * kidney transplant * known (Glomerulo-) nephritis, interstitial nephritis, vasculitis * known to be on immunosuppression, including Methotrexate, Cyclosporine, Antibody immunosuppression (e.g., rituximab, infliximab), Glucocorticoid as long-term medication at a dose above the cushing threshold * known chronic inflammatory diseases (e.g. arthritis, HIV with a CD4 count of \< 0.05 x 10E/l, chronic hepatitis) * participation in an interventional trial within the last 3 months investigating a drug that affects kidney function
