Assessment of the Prevalence of Rheumatic Heart Disease in School Settings in Mayotte and the Acquisition of Ultrasound Sequences Guided by Artificial Intelligence
Sponsor: Centre Hospitalier Universitaire de la Réunion
Summary
The prevalence of chronic rheumatic heart disease (RHD) on the island of Mayotte is unknown, but it appears to be high and is responsible for significant morbidity and mortality. Screening for RHD in schools is currently the only strategy for managing the cardiac complications of the disease; however, it requires trained medical personnel-a resource that is lacking in Mayotte, as is the case in many developing countries where the disease is endemic. RHD is a sequela of \*Streptococcus pyogenes\* infection, which can originate from tonsillitis or from impetigo secondary to a scabies infestation.

Ultrasound performed bycardiologis for diagnosis of rheumatic heart disease
The following views will be obtained. These include the standard views used for routine screening, plus additional views to screen for common pediatric conditions: parasternal long-axis, parasternal short-axis (aortic level), parasternal short-axis (mitral level), three-chamber, two-chamber, subcostal four-chamber (to screen for an atrial septal defect), parasternal short-axis (at the base), and suprasternal (to screen for a patent ductus arteriosus).
