Incidence and Risk Factors of Pneumothorax in Patients With Neuromuscular Diseases
Sponsor: Assistance Publique - Hôpitaux de Paris
Summary
Neuromuscular diseases can cause weakness of the respiratory muscles, leading to respiratory pump failure and respiratory insufficiency. Compensation for respiratory pump weakness and/or impaired cough is achieved using devices that apply pressure to increase airflow and ensure effective ventilation. This technique can cause pneumothorax (separation of the lung from the chest wall), which can have potentially serious consequences. We aim to determine whether pneumothorax is a frequent complication in this population. The results of this study would help optimize treatment and ensure the most appropriate prescription of these therapies.
