Family Accommodation Reduction in Adult Obsessive Compulsive Disorder: A Randomized Controlled Trial
Sponsor: Karen Rowa
Summary
The goal of this clinical trial is to learn if offering a Family Accommodation Reduction (FAR) intervention to family members before OCD patients start CBT can improve CBT outcomes. The current study will offer 6 sessions of Family Accommodation Reduction (FAR) or OCD psychoeducation for the family member before the person with OCD receives 12 sessions of group CBT (GCBT). The main questions it aims to answer are: * Is the addition of FAR associated with superior outcomes at the end of standard GCBT and at 3 month follow up in comparison to our control group? * Is reduction in Family Accommodation a mechanism by which FAR is impacting the outcomes of GCBT? Researchers will compare CBT outcomes between people whose family member received the FAR intervention versus psychoeducation and see if any benefits last at a 3-month follow-up. Participating Family Members will: * receive 6 weeks of FAR or Psychoeducation * answer online questionnaires at several time points throughout the study about OCD symptom severity, quality of life, and level of functioning for the person with OCD. Participating Patients will: * complete 12 weeks of CBT for OCD * answer online questionnaires at several time points throughout the study about OCD symptom severity, quality of life, and level of functioning.
