Prevention of Arteriovenous Thrombotic Events in Critically-Ill COVID-19 Patients Trial

The researchers wanted to learn how to help sick patients who are in the hospital because of COVID-19. They are trying to find out the best way that is safe to stop blood clots that could be dangerous from forming in patients with COVID-19. This research study happened at 34 hospitals. All patients in the study took medicines that help prevent blood clots. These medicines are called blood thinners or anticoagulants. Patients got different amounts of blood thinners to see what works better and is safer. Researchers randomly chose some patients to get more and some to get less. The researchers also wanted to know if another medicine called clopidogrel can safely help stop blood clots from forming. This kind of medicine helps keep parts of the blood, called platelets, from sticking together. In some patients who did not have other reasons to take a platelet-blocker the researchers randomly chose the patient to take clopidogrel or not. This type of medicine is also called an antiplatelet.

Study on the Thrombolytic Effect of Platelet Membrane Coated Tenecteplase on Human Arterial Thrombus

Tenecteplase (TNK) is the latest generation of specific thrombolytic drugs independently developed in China. This study aims to investigate the thrombolytic efficacy of platelet membrane-coated tenecteplase (PM-TNK) on human ex vivo arterial thrombi, and to explore the inhibitory effects of plasma from patients receiving antiplatelet therapy on its thrombolytic activity, thereby evaluating the future clinical application value of PM-TNK.

Registry on Augmented Antithrombotic Treatment Regimens for Patients With Arterial Thrombotic APS

The goal of this registry is to gather more information on the efficacy and safety of various antithrombotic regimens. The registry collects data on patients with antiphospholipid syndrome and an arterial event within the past 12 months, on treatment with either A) a VKA with therapeutic range, INR 2.0-3.0 plus low-dose aspirin (75-100 mg daily), B) a VKA alone with therapeutic range, INR 2.0-3.0, C) a VKA with therapeutic range, INR 3.0-4.0, or D) with a dual antiplatelet regimen. The follow-up is 2 years.

Immune Checkpoint Inhibitor Associated Cardiovascular Adverse Events in Patients With Cancer

Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICI) have revolutionized cancer treatment and are now approved for various types of cancer. The most common side effects of ICI are immune-related adverse events which can affect any organ or system in the body. Recently, concerns have also risen about cardiovascular effects of ICI. Retrospective studies showed an 4-5 times increased risk of developing an arterial thromboembolic event. The mechanisms driving the ICI-associated risks of arterial thromboembolic events such as myocardial infarction and stroke, are unclear. Since the risk of a thromboembolism appears to be increased already during the first months after initiation of ICI, immune-related hypercoagulability or (autoimmune) antiphospholipid antibodies may play a role, but data to support this are lacking. The longer-term risk of arterial thromboembolism may be predominantly driven by (accelerated) atherosclerosis, a chronic low-grade inflammatory disease of the larger arteries. Therefore, this study evaluates the effect of ICI on progression of coronary non-calcifid plaque volume by using computed tomography angiography (CCTA).
