EVALUATION OF TWO MIDWIFE-SUPPORTED BREASTFEEDING POSITIONS DURING THE FIRST BREASTFEEDING FOLLOWING VAGINAL BIRTH

This study is being conducted by Dr. Benay OĞUZ. This form has been prepared to inform you about the conditions and procedures of the study. \*\*Title of the Study:\*\* Evaluation of Two Different Midwife-Supported Breastfeeding Positions During the First Breastfeeding After Vaginal Birth: A Randomized Controlled Trial \*\*What Is the Purpose of the Study?\*\* The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effects of two different breastfeeding positions, applied with midwife support during the first breastfeeding after vaginal birth, on breastfeeding success. If you agree to participate in the study, you will be expected to allow the midwife to support you during breastfeeding. Your participation in this study will take approximately 20 minutes. \*\*How Will We Use the Information Collected from You?\*\* Your participation in this study is entirely voluntary. You will not be asked to provide any information that could identify you or your institution. Your information will be kept strictly confidential and will be evaluated only by the researchers. The information obtained from the participants will be analyzed collectively and may be used in scientific publications. The data you provide will not be matched with any identifying information collected through the voluntary participation forms. Approximately 80 postpartum women who voluntarily agree to participate are expected to be included in this study. \*\*What You Should Know About Participation:\*\* This study does not involve any additional risks beyond those that may ordinarily be encountered in daily life. The intervention consists of midwife-supported breastfeeding positioning, which is part of routine postpartum care, and observational assessment of breastfeeding. Midwife support during the first breastfeeding may contribute to improving maternal comfort and reducing breastfeeding difficulties in the early postpartum period by facilitating more effective positioning. If you feel uncomfortable for any reason during your participation, you are free to withdraw from the study at any time. In such a case, it will be sufficient to inform the researcher verbally or by email that you wish to withdraw from the study. At the end of the study, any questions you may have regarding the research will be answered.

Breastfeeding Education Integrated With Web Portal and Mobile Application-Supported Counseling

Breastfeeding provides significant benefits for maternal and infant health; however, perceived insufficient milk supply is one of the most common factors associated with early breastfeeding discontinuation. Although the World Health Organization recommends exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months of life, breastfeeding continuation rates remain suboptimal in many countries, including Türkiye. This randomized controlled trial aims to evaluate the effect of breastfeeding education combined with a web portal and mobile application-supported breastfeeding counseling on perceived insufficient milk supply, breastfeeding intention, and breastfeeding adaptation among pregnant women. Women at 37-39 weeks of gestation will be randomly assigned to an intervention group or a control group. Participants in the intervention group will receive individualized breastfeeding education during pregnancy, educational materials, postpartum breastfeeding support, and web portal- and mobile application-supported breastfeeding counseling. Participants in the control group will receive routine hospital care. Data will be collected during pregnancy (baseline), immediately after birth, and at 1-, 3-, and 6-month postpartum follow-ups using validated scales assessing perceived insufficient milk supply, breastfeeding intention, and breastfeeding adaptation. Digital platform usage data, including the counseling topics accessed and the frequency of use, will also be evaluated in the intervention group. This study is supported as a research project and aims to develop an accessible digital breastfeeding support model that may improve breastfeeding confidence, reduce perceived insufficient milk supply, and promote breastfeeding adaptation and continuation.

Birth & Breastfeeding Support Study

The goal of this observational study is to learn about the effects of birth practices such as cesarean section and vacuum assisted birth and diseases such as gestational diabetes and preeclampsia on exclusive breastfeeding. The main question it aims to answer is: • Does cesarean section, vacuum assisted birth, gestational diabetes and preeclampsia affect exclusive breastfeeding three months after birth? Participants answer eight online survey questions. One survey is distributed before birth and the remaining seven surveys are distributed after birth at three, seven and four-teen days, as well as one, three, six and twelve months after birth.
