Effects of Park Golf on Working Memory and Prefrontal Cortex Activation in Older Adults
This study investigates whether a park golf program can improve working memory and prefrontal cortex activity in community-dwelling older adults. A total of 36 older adults (aged 65-85) were randomly assigned to either a park golf group or a health education group. The park golf group participated in a supervised park golf program (2 sessions per week for 4 weeks, 60 minutes per session), while the health education group attended lectures on healthy aging topics such as nutrition and fall prevention on the same schedule. Before and after the intervention, participants completed cognitive and physical assessments, including the Korean Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA-K), the Timed Up and Go test, and a spatial working memory task (N-back) performed while brain activity in the prefrontal cortex was measured using functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS), a non-invasive, radiation-free imaging method. The findings may help establish evidence for community-based physical activity programs, such as park golf, as a strategy to support cognitive health in older adults.

Effects of Sevoflurane vs Desflurane on Early Recovery and Cognitive Function in Elderly Patients Undergoing Scheduled Non-Cardiac Surgery
The goal of this clinical study is to compare the effects of desflurane versus sevoflurane on early postoperative recovery and cognitive function in elderly patients (aged 60 years and older, ASA I-III) undergoing elective non-cardiac surgery under general anesthesia. The main questions this study aims to answer are: Which anesthetic agent allows faster emergence from anesthesia (eye opening, response to commands, extubation)? Does desflurane lead to earlier cognitive recovery as measured by the Short Orientation Memory Concentration Test (SOMCT)? Does the choice of volatile anesthetic influence the time required to achieve a modified Aldrete score (MAS) ≥ 9 and PACU discharge readiness? Researchers compared the desflurane group to the sevoflurane group to determine whether desflurane provides a superior recovery profile and minimizes delayed emergence in elderly surgical patients. Participants will: Be randomly assigned to receive either desflurane or sevoflurane for maintenance of general anesthesia. Undergo standardized induction with fentanyl, propofol, and cisatracurium, along with uniform ventilatory and monitoring protocols. Have emergence parameters recorded immediately after discontinuation of the inhaled agent (eye opening, command following, extubation). Be evaluated in the post-anesthesia care unit using the modified Aldrete Score (MAS) and SOMCT, with predefined thresholds for recovery (MAS ≥ 9, SOMCT ≥ 20). This study aims to determine whether desflurane-due to its lower blood/gas partition coefficient-offers measurable clinical benefits in terms of rapid awakening, cognitive recovery, and overall early postoperative recovery in the geriatric population.

Effects of Bicarbonate Spring Water Immersion on Cognitive Reliability and Post-Maximal Exercise Recovery in Adolescent Rowers During Altitude Training: A Sex-Stratified Three-Arm Randomized Controlled Trial
This randomized controlled trial aims to investigate the effects of hot spring bath therapy on cognitive function recovery, cerebral hemodynamics, and athletic performance in athletes undergoing altitude training. Participants will be randomly assigned to either a hot spring intervention group, a hot water control group, or a blank control group. The hot spring intervention group receives hot spring baths (38°C, 20 minutes) combined with altitude training; the hot water control group receives hot water baths (38°C, 20 minutes) combined with altitude training; and the blank control group receives standard recovery procedures combined with altitude training. Primary outcome measures include cognitive performance assessments (Stroop test, psychomotor vigilance test) and cerebral hemodynamic indicators (functional near-infrared spectroscopy, transcranial Doppler ultrasound). Secondary outcomes included exercise capacity (maximal oxygen uptake, triathlon performance, 500-meter test), blood lactate, and hematological parameters (white blood cells, neutrophils, platelets). These findings may provide evidence for non-pharmacological interventions to enhance cognitive recovery and brain adaptation during altitude training.
