Child Behavior Ratings During Dental Treatment

This is a descriptive observational study aimed at evaluating the inter-rater agreement of four behavioral rating scales used in pediatric dentistry-the Houpt Scale, the Ohio State University Behavioral Rating Scale, the Venham Scale, and the Frankl Scale-for assessing children's behavior during dental treatment. The study will be based on the analysis of video recordings of clinical procedures. The study will include 30 children aged between 4 and 10 years who attend the Pediatric Dentistry postgraduate training clinic at the University of Valencia for dental treatment. Only children whose parents or legal guardians have signed the informed consent form for participation in the study, the consent form authorizing the dental treatment, and the consent form authorizing the use of images will be included. Children classified as ASA III or IV, children with neurological or cognitive disorders, and children whose parents do not agree to participation or do not sign the informed consent form will be excluded. Clinical situations in which video recording could interfere with the safety of the procedure or compromise the patient's well-being will also be excluded. The dental treatment will be performed by students enrolled in the postgraduate program in Pediatric Dentistry and will consist of restorative treatment for dental caries requiring local anesthesia.

Impact of Preoperative Dental Screening in Reducing Infective Endocarditis Risk in Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation Patients

In Odense University Hospital preoperative dental screening (PDS) protocol for patients treated with Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI) was changed from mandatory to targeted PDS to between June 2023 to october 2023. The investigators will therefore compare the risk of IE before june 2023 and after october 2023.

Insomnia and Post-Dental Surgery Pain: A Prospective Study

The purpose of this prospective observational study is to evaluate the relationship between preoperative sleep disturbances-specifically insomnia-and postoperative pain intensity following oral surgical procedures. Recent scientific literature highlights a bidirectional relationship between sleep disorders and pain in dentistry, suggesting that disturbed sleep may actively exacerbate subsequent pain perception. Although postoperative pain, swelling, and masticatory difficulties are common after dental extractions, clinical data investigating the direct impact of preoperative sleep quality on these surgical outcomes remain scarce. This study will enroll adult patients undergoing routine dental extractions and allocate them into two cohorts based on their baseline sleep quality: patients without preoperative sleep disturbances and patients with preoperative sleep disturbances. Pain levels and sleep parameters will be assessed using validated questionnaires before the surgery and at a 7-day follow-up. The primary objective is to determine whether the presence of preoperative insomnia leads to a significant increase in perceived postoperative surgical pain.

The Effect of Bulk Filling Flowable Composite on Caries Recurrence in Deep Marginal Elevation: A Randomized Clinical Trial

Deep marginal elevation usinge a bioactive dental material in deep subgingival Class II restorations, S-PRG filler-containing materials offer significant benefits due to their bioactive properties, Their ability to release fluoride, remineralization potential and acid neutralization, reducing the risk of recurrent caries, particularly at the gingival margin(Imazato et al. 2023). The antibacterial and antifungal effects help inhibit biofilm formation, enhancing the longevity of restorations. Additionally, these materials support better marginal adaptation by reducing microleakage and improving bond durability (Imazato et al. 2023) This type of composite may improve the outcomes of deep subgingival margin elevation, benefiting both restorative success and periodontal health(Imazato et al. 2023).

Clinical Performance of High Viscosity Bioactive Injectable Composite in Deep Marginal Elevation

Using a bioactive resin composite in subgingival Class II cavities can provide enhanced caries resistance by releasing multiple ions, including fluoride. This approach offers greater resistance to caries due to the incorporation of surface pre-reacted glass filler (S-PRG) technology (Imazato, Nakatsuka et al., 2023). This type of composite may improve the outcomes of deep subgingival margin elevation, benefiting both restorative success and periodontal health.
