Testing the Timing and Application of Virtual Reality Distraction During Knee Injections in a VA Pain Clinic

The goal of this clinical trial is to learn whether virtual reality (VR) can be added to routine knee injection appointments at a VA outpatient pain clinic without slowing down or disrupting clinic operations. The study will enroll 45 adult veterans who are scheduled for a knee injection at the Atlanta VA Arcadia pain clinic. The main questions it aims to answer are * Can a VR headset be set up and used during a knee injection with minimal time disruptions? * How many patients agree to take part, how many need to stop using the headset early, and how satisfied are patients and clinicians with the experience? Researchers will compare patients who wear a VR headset during their injection to patients who receive the usual injection without VR. This will show whether VR may change anxiety, time spent thinking about pain, satisfaction, and memory of the procedure. Participants will: * Be assigned by chance to one of two groups. Two out of every three participants will use VR, and one out of every three will receive usual care only. * If in the VR group, wear a headset showing a virtual environment with little motion. A research team member will place the headset before the needle goes in and remove it after the injection is finished. * Receive their scheduled knee injection as usual from their clinician. * Complete a short survey right after the procedure. Taking part happens during one clinic visit and takes about 30 minutes. The knee injection itself is standard care and is not changed by the study.

Video-Enhanced Tell-Show-Do for Managing Dental Anxiety in Children

This study is the first of its kind to examine the effect of integrating the real oral environment with a video that supports the expressions used during the Tell-Show-Do technique (such as "we will see the cavity," "the cavity will drink juice to fall asleep," and "we will clean the tooth from the cavity"). This approach aims to enhance the Tell-Show-Do technique, build trust with the child, and reduce anxiety at the different stages of dental treatment in the clinical setting.

NCT07781254

Immersive Virtual Reality for Pain and Dental Anxiety During Pediatric Restorative Treatment

This study evaluated whether immersive virtual reality (VR) can help reduce pain and dental fear and improve behavioral cooperation in children undergoing restorative dental treatment. Children aged 8-12 years who required treatment of primary molars were randomly assigned to either a VR group or a control group. Children in the VR group watched an age-appropriate animated video through a VR headset during local anesthesia and dental treatment, while children in the control group received routine dental treatment without VR. Pain, dental anxiety, dental fear, behavioral cooperation, emotional responses, physiological measurements, treatment duration, and parent and clinician satisfaction were assessed and compared between the two groups.

Effect of Virtual Reality Distraction on Pain, Anxiety, Vital Signs in Patients Undergoing Lumbar Puncture

Lumbar puncture (LP) is one of the most frequently applied interventional procedures in the clinical field. It is still used as the gold standard diagnostic tool in some infectious and non-infectious diseases. Its use in treatment also increases the clinical importance of lumbar puncture . Due to its wide range of indications, LP is a procedure that requires a professional approach in nursing care . Patients may feel anxious at every stage of the procedure. Pain and fear may be experienced due to the anesthesia procedure and needle movements during the procedure . Having to maintain the fetal position during the procedure may cause anxiety. This situation may result in deterioration in vital signs later on . Considering all these problems, this study was planned considering that distraction with the help of virtual reality in the nursing care of patients undergoing LP will have a positive effect on pain, anxiety and vital signs. The fact that there is no experimental study in the literature investigating the effect of virtual reality on pain, anxiety and vital signs during LP constitutes the strong and original aspect of the study. The aim of the study was to evaluate the effects of virtual reality on pain, anxiety and vital signs in patients undergoing lumbar puncture.

Virtual Reality (VR) Could Be a Good Alternative to Relaxing or Pain-relieving Medication

We want to investigate whether Virtual Reality (VR) could be a good alternative to the relaxing or pain-relieving medications that are often used to alleviate anxiety when patients undergo surgery under local anesthesia.
