§SMOKE Nicotine and Tobacco Youth Cohort
The §SMOKE Cohort Study aims to improve understanding of tobacco and nicotine use among adolescents and young adults in Denmark. The study focuses on a rapidly changing nicotine landscape that includes cigarettes, e-cigarettes, nicotine pouches, heated tobacco products, and other nicotine products. The study is based on the hypothesis that tobacco and nicotine use during adolescence and young adulthood follows different developmental pathways and that individual characteristics, social influences, and environmental factors affect initiation, continued use, cessation, relapse, and switching between products. The study further hypothesizes that different patterns of tobacco and nicotine use are associated with differences in educational, health, and social outcomes. By following young people over time, the study seeks to improve understanding of how tobacco and nicotine use develops, which factors influence these behaviors, and what consequences may be associated with different patterns of use. The findings will contribute to evidence supporting tobacco and nicotine prevention efforts and public health policy for adolescents and young adults in Denmark.

Project E-Shift: A Harm Reduction Intervention for Chronically Unhoused Smokers.
This pilot randomized trial tested whether switching to e-cigarettes, compared with standard nicotine replacement therapy (NRT; patch and gum), helped adults with a history of chronic homelessness stop smoking combustible cigarettes. All participants received brief cessation counseling and incentives for carbon monoxide (CO)-verified abstinence from cigarettes during the first weeks after a scheduled switch date. Participants were followed for 12 weeks after switching, with a final follow-up at 24 weeks. The study also assessed feasibility (recruitment, retention, and visit attendance) and used interviews with participants and service-agency staff to understand acceptability and how a tobacco harm reduction program could fit into existing housing and clinic services.

Concurrent vs. Sequential Cessation of Dual Cigarette and E-cigarette Use
The purpose of this research study is to understand whether concurrent treatment for cigarettes and e-cigarettes in which an individual quits both products at the same time (QUIT-C) or sequential treatment in which an individual quits cigarettes first followed by e-cigarettes is more effective for quitting both products. The study will also compare the effect of treatment on health-related biomarkers. All participants will receive varenicline, a medication used to treat tobacco use dependence, counseling, and cessation resources (i.e., links to text-based support, self-change booklet). Varenicline helps to reduce cravings for tobacco use and decreases the pleasurable effects of cigarettes and other tobacco products.
