Physiotherapy Practice in Flemish Nursing Homes

The goal of this observational study is to evaluate the extent to which physiotherapy sessions in Flemish nursing homes adhere to the IAGG-GARN guidelines and to explore factors influencing clinical practice among physiotherapists. The study targets multiple nursing homes across Flanders, with 3 to 5 centers in each of the provinces of Limburg, Antwerp, and Flemish Brabant. This selection ensures variation in geographic location and organizational context. The participants in this study are physiotherapists working in the participating nursing homes. The main questions it aims to answer are: * To what extent do the physiotherapy sessions align with the IAGG-GARN guidelines? * Are there differences in physiotherapy session content and volume according to physiotherapist characteristics and resident characteristics? * What barriers and facilitators do physiotherapists experience when implementing guideline-based practice in Flemish nursing homes? Researchers will observe physiotherapy sessions delivered as part of routine care and document session content and duration using structured observation diaries. Participating physiotherapists will also take part in focus groups discussing experiences with guideline implementation, barriers, facilitators, and clinical decision-making.

Left Atrial Pressure-Guided Heart Failure Optimization During Atrial Fibrillation Ablation (LAP AF-HF)

This study examines whether measuring blood pressure inside the left upper chamber of the heart during a procedure to treat an irregular heartbeat called atrial fibrillation can help identify patients who would benefit from heart failure medications. During atrial fibrillation ablation, a catheter crosses into the left atrium, allowing direct measurement of left atrial pressure. When the pressure is elevated (15 mmHg or higher), it may indicate that the heart is under strain from unrecognized or undertreated heart failure. Patients with elevated left atrial pressure during ablation are referred for heart failure evaluation and medication optimization within 24 hours of the procedure. The study compares outcomes in these patients to a group of patients who had the same elevated pressures but received standard care without a structured heart failure evaluation. The study measures whether the heart failure treatment pathway leads to greater use of recommended heart failure medications, improvements in heart pumping function and heart chamber size, and reduction in irregular heartbeat episodes over the following year

Bring Sleep to Life - Evaluation and Description of a Sleep Intervention in Emergency Care

Many patients complain of poor sleep during their hospital stay. Therefore, we want to investigate how we can improve the staff's (nurses and assistant nurses) knowledge about sleep and which nursing interventions can lead to improved sleep during their hospital stay. The intervention are in three parts: a clinical guideline introduction of sleep nursing champions a web-based educational course

Valvular Heart Disease in Women Registry

Valvular heart disease (VHD) is a major global health issue. Untreated rheumatic heart disease persists in many regions, preventable with timely care. Higher-income countries face rising calcific valve disease from aging, worsened by VHD complications, like infective endocarditis, resulting in higher morbidity/mortality. Gender disparities in VHD remains understudied, despite inequalities in risks, diagnosis, and treatment. Prevalence varies by gender, but uneven diagnostics and therapies obscure realities. This registry will examine gender disparities from hospital admission to first outpatient follow-up, recruiting both men and women to investigate and report the study objectives.
