Effect of Hydration Education on Young Judokas
Brief Summary
The goal of this clinical trial is to learn whether a single-session hydration education intervention combined with hydration-promoting materials can improve hydration status in male child judo athletes (judokas) aged 8-15 years. The main questions it aims to answer are:
Do urine-based hydration markers - specifically urine specific gravity (USG) and urine color (UC) - improve following a single-session hydration education intervention combined with hydration-promoting materials, and do these improvements persist over a 60-day follow-up period? Do perceptual hydration indicators, including thirst sensation and mouth dryness, decrease following the intervention and across the follow-up period? Does fluid intake during standardized judo training sessions increase following the intervention? Does exercise-induced body mass change during training differ across the follow-up period compared to baseline?
Participants will:
Attend a single approximately 40-minute hydration education session covering the role of water in the body, causes and consequences of fluid loss, strategies for staying hydrated, and individualized hydration feedback based on their urine specific gravity values Receive hydration-promoting materials including a personalized water bottle, an informational brochure summarizing the education session with a urine color reference chart, and have access to hydration reminder posters and urine color scales placed in their training facility Complete four assessment sessions - one before the intervention (baseline) and three after the intervention (at 1 day, 30 days, and 60 days) - each consisting of a standardized approximately 60-minute judo training session Provide urine samples immediately before and after each training session for hydration assessment Have their body mass measured before and after each training session Rate their thirst sensation and mouth dryness on a visual analog scale before and after each training session Have their fluid intake recorded during each training session
