Validation of Wearable Core Body Temperature-Based Circadian Rhythm Digital Biomarkers

This single-site prospective observational study aims to validate wearable-derived circadian and behavioral rhythm biomarkers using continuous core body temperature and raw accelerometry measurements and to explore longitudinal changes in circadian and rest-activity rhythms in psychiatric inpatients. The study consists of two complementary substudies. Study 1 will enroll 150 outpatients and community participants, including 75 patients with major depressive disorder or bipolar I/II disorder and 75 healthy controls. Participants will simultaneously wear a CALERAResearch core body temperature sensor and a Fitbit Charge 6 for approximately 7 days. Agreement between Fitbit-derived circadian and sleep/activity rhythm features and CALERAResearch-derived core body temperature and raw accelerometry markers will be evaluated. A subset of 50 participants will undergo a second measurement at least 1 month later to assess test-retest reliability. Study 2 will enroll 50 psychiatric inpatients irrespective of final diagnosis. Participants will continuously wear CALERAResearch and Fitbit devices from shortly after admission through the inpatient observation period, with CALERAResearch sensors replaced approximately every 5-7 days. Longitudinal changes in core body temperature rhythms, rest-activity rhythms, and physiological-behavioral rhythm alignment will be examined in relation to changes in psychiatric symptoms.

Ageing and Health. Spanish Longitudinal Study

Ageing with Health is a longitudinal cohort study aimed to examine trajectories of health, disability and wellbeing and their determinants for Spanish ageing population. The data that makes up the baseline was collected from a nationally representative sample of non-institutionalized adults as part of the "Collaborative Research on Aging in Europe (COURAGE in Europe)" project between July 2011 and May 2012. The second wave was carried out as part of the "Age with Health" project between December 2014 and June 2015, and three years later, in 2018, the third wave was carried out. In 2019-2021, a new cohort of participants were brought in (2019 cohort), some of whom were interviewed again by telephone during the first Coronavirus (COVID-19) lockdown, in early 2020. In 2022, the fourth wave of the 2011 cohort was evaluated, and in 2023, the second wave of the 2019 cohort was evaluated. Finally, in 2025, the fifth wave of the 2011 cohort and the third wave of the 2019 cohort were evaluated, which are the last follow-ups in this study.

Screening to Identify Parents in Need of Mental Health Support: A Feasibility Study in Child Welfare Services

The main aim of this study is to evaluate the feasibility, preliminary effects and experiences of the Collaboration-Screening-Referral approach (CSR / in Swedish: Samverkan-Screening-Hänvisning - SSH) when used with parents referred to the Swedish child welfare services. The SSH is an approach including an online training and organizational working model to equip social services to screen parents for symptoms of mental illness using structured questionnaires, establish intra-agency collaboration, and refer to mental health services. Additionally, to increase social workers and confidence in assessing and handling mental illness through receiving training in the SSH and administering questionnaires to parents. The main questions the project aims to answer are: * Are parents engaged with child welfare services willing to undergo screening for symptoms of depression and anxiety? * Are the trial procedures and training included in the SSH-model feasible, in terms of acceptability, completion, and negative experiences? * How do parents and social workers experience the SSH? * Do social workers' clinical skill use, knowledge and confidence relevant to supporting parents with mental illness increase? Social workers answer questions before and after their training and after 6 and 12 months. Additionally, social workers and parents will be interviewed. Qualitative and quantitative within-group analyses will be conducted to examine experiences and preliminary effects of the SSH.

Expert@Work - Effectiveness of a Digital Expert Team on Return to Work

Long-term sick leave is a challenge in Norway, and the healthcare and labor- and welfare services are often not coordinated in helping the sick-listed employees return to work. In this study, the investigators want to evaluate the effectiveness of an intervention where an expert team provides advice for an individualized patient pathway based on information from a digital questionnaire and a video meeting with the sick-listed employee and the participant's general practitioner. The patient pathway should include both healthcare and labor- and welfare services measures. Sick-listed patients with musculoskeletal- and/or common mental disorders are invited to join the study. They will receive a digital questionnaire and be randomized to either treatment as usual or personalized advice from an expert team. The team will be put together based on the response from the individual's questionnaire. The investigators will evaluate the effect on return to work and the use of health care services 12 months after the intervention.

A Trial of Two Universal Programs for Parents of Teenagers

Group-based and internet-delivered parenting programs may help parents improve their communication and relationships with their children. However, relatively little is known about how well such programs work for parents of adolescents, because most previous studies have focused on younger children or on families selected because of elevated risk. This study evaluated two universal preventive parenting programs for parents of adolescents: the group-based ABC-Teen program and the internet-delivered ParentWeb program. Both programs were developed in Sweden and aim to promote adolescent well-being by strengthening parenting practices and parent-adolescent relationships and reducing negative communication. Families were randomized to ABC-Teen, ParentWeb, or a waitlist control condition. The sole primary outcome was parent-reported adolescent mental health problems, measured using the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire Total Difficulties score. Secondary outcomes included parental mental health and stress, parenting behaviors and parental self-efficacy, parent-adolescent and family relationships, adolescent school adjustment and substance use, and outcomes reported by participants in an optional adolescent survey. Parent and adolescent assessments were conducted at baseline, 4 months, and 12 months. After completion of the 4-month assessment, families assigned to the waitlist were offered their choice of ABC-Teen or ParentWeb. Consequently, comparisons with the waitlist were restricted to the period from baseline to 4 months, whereas longer-term analyses compared ABC-Teen with ParentWeb.

AgingUP: A Pilot Program to Reduce Self-Ageism and Self-Stigma in Older Adults With Severe Mental Illness

The goal of this pilot clinical trial is to learn whether AgingUP, a 10-session psychosocial program, helps reduce self-ageism and self-stigma and fosters more positive and realistic views of aging in older adults (≥50 years) living with severe mental illness. The main questions it aims to answer are: * Does participation in AgingUP reduce self-directed ageism compared to usual care? * Does it reduce internalized stigma related to mental illness? * Does it increase self-compassion? * Does it improve their perception of their own aging? Researchers will compare the AgingUP group with a control group receiving treatment as usual to see if participants in AgingUP show more adaptive perceptions of aging and self-concept. Participants will: * Attend 10 weekly group sessions (60-75 min each) focused on cognitive-behavioral techniques, acceptance and commitment strategies, self-compassion exercises, and empowerment (as a transversal element). * Complete brief questionnaires about their experiences and attitudes before and after the program.

Psychological Outcomes of Strategic Therapy in Adult Outpatients (POST Trial)

This observational study investigates the outcomes of Strategic Psychotherapy, a form of brief psychological treatment focused on specific goals for change. The aim is to evaluate whether patients who receive this therapy in private practice settings experience improvements in their psychological well-being, psychological symptoms, and daily functioning. The study population includes all adult patients (≥16 years) who spontaneously seek treatment from two strategic therapists between January 2021 and December 2025. Eligible participants must present with psychological problems that meet the criteria for a clinical diagnosis. Participants will complete two psychological questionnaires (SCL-90R and CORE-OM) before starting therapy and again at the end of their treatment. Changes in scores on these outcome measures will be statistically compared with data from a non-clinical population to assess whether the observed changes are greater than would be expected by chance. Additional information will be collected, including medication use, the patient's own evaluation of the therapy, the number of sessions attended, the initial diagnosis, family involvement, and the types of therapeutic prescriptions used.

Evaluation of a Digital Pre-therapy Patient Education Program (StartHjelp) in Outpatient Mental Health Care

Community mental health centers (CMHCs) face significant challenges in meeting the needs of individuals with mental health issues. For example, due to high demand, there are long waiting lists and low engagement rates. Innovative interventions are urgently needed to address these challenges to improve patient engagement, coping skills, and overall health outcomes. Educational and self-management interventions have shown promise in enhancing patient activation and treatment satisfaction in other contexts. They may therefore be potential solutions to reduce the identified challenges in the mental health service. To bridge these knowledge and practice gaps, this study aims to evaluate a digital pre-therapy patient education program tailored specifically for adults with mental disorders. This intervention aims to enhance treatment satisfaction, patient activation, knowledge, patient engagement, and overall mental health outcomes.

Virtual Menstrual Pain Approaches in Females

This research study is testing two self-care approaches that may help prevent or reduce period pain in young females with recurrent painful menstrual cramps. Participants will be placed by chance into 1 of 3 groups: auricular acupressure, Baduanjin qigong, or a self-care education comparison group. The auricular acupressure and Baduanjin groups will receive online training and then practice the treatment on their own for 12 weeks. The main question is whether these two approaches can reduce the severity of menstrual pain. The study will also look at whether they can improve other symptoms that often happen with period pain, such as tiredness, poor sleep, anxiety, low mood, trouble concentrating, and reduced physical function. Researchers will also study stool and blood-related biological markers to better understand whether changes in gut bacteria and body metabolism may be linked to symptom improvement. A total of 145 participants will take part in the study at NTU, and any side effects or other safety concerns will be checked every week.
