NCT04671862
Photobiomodulation for the Prevention of Radiation Induced Oral Mucositis
Radiotherapy for head and neck cancer can cause severe mucositis (ulcers in the mouth) and pain. Photobiomodulation (Light therapy) will be used before and during radiotherapy to try to reduce the occurence and severity of mucositis in patients treated with radiotherapy for head and neck cancer Previous studies in head and neck cancer patients have shown that photobiomodulation (light therapy) can prevent mucositis. There are currently no centers in Canada using this technique in routine practice, but this is recommended in International guidelines and widely used in Europe. The investigators therefore wish to implement this technique in Ottawa under the umbrella of a clinical trial to insure its safety and efficacy in a Canadian context.

Music Therapy for Oral Mucositis Pain in Pediatric Patients
This mixed-methods pilot study will examine the effect of music therapy on oral mucositis pain in pediatric oncology patients. Oral mucositis, characterized by painful ulcerative lesions in the mouth, is a common side effect of high-dose chemotherapy and hematopoietic stem cell or bone marrow transplantation. Despite its high prevalence and impact on quality of life, effective pain management strategies for pediatric oral mucositis remain limited and often rely heavily on medications that may cause significant side effects or provide insufficient relief. Music therapy may offer a promising non-pharmacologic adjunct for reducing pain, yet no studies to date have specifically evaluated its use for oral mucositis pain in pediatric patients.

Safety and Tolerability of the Use of Copaiba in Patients With Oral Cancer Submitted to Radiotherapy
This study aims to propose an alternative and auxiliary methodology for the prevention and treatment of Oral Mucositis (OM) in patients undergoing radiotherapy or radio and chemotherapy for head and neck neoplasms through the use of copaiba-based mouthwash, since the treatment that currently has proven efficacy for the prevention of OM(Low Power Laser Therapy) cannot be applied in tumor regions due to the risk of stimulating the tissue proliferation of malignant cells.

Photobiomodulation Alone Versus Photobiomodulation Combined With Topical Oral Oxygen Therapy for Radiotherapy-Induced Oral Mucositis in Head and Neck Cancer Patients: A Randomized Clinical Trial
Oral mucositis is the inflammation and ulceration of the mucous membranes within the oral cavity, characterized by atrophy, edema, and erythema (1), and it occurs in nearly all patients with advanced head and neck cancer (HNC) receiving chemotherapy and radiotherapy \[2,3\]. It can seriously disrupt a person's life, affecting both quality of life and the course of treatment (2). Identifying the optimal management for oral mucositis remains a significant clinical challenge. Therapeutic modalities such as photobiomodulation (PBM) and benzydamine have shown beneficial effects in reducing mucosal injury and accelerating healing (3). In addition, maintaining proper oral hygiene and using adjunctive therapeutic agents can help minimize mucositis severity. Advanced interventions, including low-level laser therapy and optimized radiation delivery techniques like Intensity-Modulated Radiotherapy, may further reduce the incidence and severity of oral mucosal damage (4). PBM can improve tissue regeneration, promote wound healing, and minimize pain and inflammation (5). Patients unable to take non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs can benefit from it in addition to enhancing tissue regeneration and post-surgery recovery (6). Oxygen plays a fundamental role in wound healing, as it is required for cellular energy production, protein synthesis, cell proliferation, angiogenesis, and tissue repair. Oxygen tension varies by anatomical location, and wound sites often remain relatively hypoxic, which increases the risk of infection and ultimately delays or impairs tissue regeneration (7). Consequently, therapeutic strategies aimed at enhancing oxygen availability within the wound environment have been shown to promote more effective wound management and accelerated healing outcomes(8).

A Clinical Trial of the Administration of Light Therapy to Prevent Mouth Sores in Children With Cancer
The goal of this clinical trial is to learn if light therapy can prevent mouth sores in children with cancer. The main questions it aims to answer are: Is it reasonable and acceptable to provide light therapy for children with cancer? Does light therapy prevent mouth sores related to medical treatment? Researchers will compare children who do not receive light therapy to children who do receive light therapy during the clinical trial to see if light therapy helps to prevent mucositis. Participants will: * Complete a survey. * Have picture taken of their mouth to look for mouth sores. * Receive light therapy every day while admitted to the hospital on the cancer unit or while admitted to an alternate unit, and continue to receive light therapy in the home setting until they reach 8 days after the start of their chemotherapy cycle.

Treatment of Peri-implant Mucositis by Application of a Spermidine-based Gel
The aim of the study is to evaluate the potential of a spermidine-based topical gel as an adjuvant to non-surgical treatment of peri-implant mucositis. After a meticulous selection, patients will be randomly assigned to Test (spermidine gel + non-surgical debridement) or Control group (non-surgical debridement).

Glutamine Combined With Thalidomide in Preventing Radiation-induced Oral Mucositis
The goal of this study is to compare glutamine combined with thalidomide with glutamine in preventing radiation-induced oral mucositis. The aim of this study is to answer whether glutamine plus thalidomide could improve the median incidence time of grade 2 oral mucositis. Participants would be randomly divided into the two groups above mentioned.

Using Red Light Therapy to Ease Skin Side Effects and Mouth Side Effects, in Children and Young People Aged 0 to 16 Years Old, Receiving Radiotherapy
The goal of this interventional study is to see if the daily use of red light therapy called photobiomodulation can help sore skin and sore mouths in children having radiotherapy. All children aged 0-16 years old who are receiving either proton or photon radiotherapy treatment, except to the brain only, will be asked if they would like to join the study. The main questions it aims to answer are: 1. Does the use of red light therapy help the skin side effects in children and young people undergoing proton or photon therapy? 2. Does the use of red light therapy help the mouth side effects in children and young people undergoing proton or photon therapy in the head and neck area? Researchers will compare the patients enrolled on to the study with a like for like historic patient to see if red light therapy improves the sore skin and sore mouths caused by proton or photon therapy. Participants will have a daily treatment with red light therapy alongside their daily proton or photon treatment fraction.
