NCT07821164
Exercise Snacks for Muscle Strength in Older Adults With Possible Sarcopenia
This study aims to investigate whether exercise snacks, a time-efficient approach involving short bouts of exercise performed throughout the day, can improve muscle strength in older adults with possible sarcopenia. Participants will be randomly assigned to an exercise snacks group, a home-based resistance training group, or a non-exercise control group. The intervention will last 8 weeks. Muscle strength and physical function will be assessed before and after the intervention.

HB05P on Muscle Health
The purpose of this pilot study is to evaluate whether HB05P, a health functional food ingredient containing pasteurized Akkermansia muciniphila HB05, improves muscle strength, and to evaluate its safety. This is a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, parallel-group, single-center study. A total of 80 adults aged 50 to under 80 years who meet the 2025 Asian Working Group for Sarcopenia (AWGS) criteria for sarcopenia or possible sarcopenia will be randomly assigned in a 1:1 ratio to the test group or the control group. Participants will take one 430 mg hard capsule once daily with water after breakfast for 168 days (24 weeks). The test capsule contains 150 mg of HB05P (3 x 10\^10 cells per day); the control capsule contains microcrystalline cellulose and is identical in appearance and packaging. All participants are asked to perform 30 to 60 minutes of walking and resistance exercise at least 3 times per week throughout the study and to keep an exercise diary and an intake diary. The primary outcome is the change from baseline in peak torque per body weight (Nm/kg) of the quadriceps and hamstrings, measured with an isokinetic dynamometer at an angular velocity of 60 degrees per second and averaged across the left and right sides. Secondary outcomes include average power, muscle strength, muscle mass measured by dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry, handgrip strength, Short Physical Performance Battery scores, muscle-related blood markers, and quality of life. Efficacy and safety are assessed at baseline (Day 0), Week 12 (Day 84), and Week 24 (Day 168).

Association Between Oral Hypofunction, Sarcopenia and Social Frailty in Community-dwelling Older Adults
Previous studies have provided a preliminary understanding of the likelihood of sarcopenia and the prevalence of sarcopenia in the elderly in the community. due to the interaction between physiological and social factors, this study aims to conduct a correlation study on muscle mass, oral function and social frailty in the elderly living in the community. This study, the Makizako social frailty screening index questionnaire and the Tilburg Frailty Indicator will be used to assess the social frailty status of the study participants. Correlation analysis with sarcopenia and oral dysfunction was also conducted to better understand the interaction between nutrition, physiology, and social connection in the elderly, which will be helpful for formulating relevant policies and promoting healthy aging in the future in extremely elderly countries.

Research on the Possible Relationship Between Sarcopenia and Oral Muscle Function
This study will focus on community-dwelling elderly individuals and will follow the community screening process recommended by AWGS. It is expected to recruit 100 individuals who may have sarcopenia and 300 healthy or sub-healthy elderly individuals who are not likely to have sarcopenia, totaling 400 participants.Basic data such as age and body composition will be collected, as well as dietary records (three days), nutritional status assessments (Mini Nutritional Assessment, MNA), and oral health status records (including records of missing teeth, the number of opposing teeth, and whether participants wear fixed or removable dentures). Chewing and swallowing abilities will be recorded using the Eating Assessment Tool (EAT-10). In a non-invasive manner, saliva samples will be collected for genomic DNA (gDNA) extraction, followed by quantitative gDNA typing analysis of seven gene loci (shown in Table 3). Genotype data will be statistically analyzed along with participants' basic information, relevant sarcopenia screening data, and parameters related to oral health and swallowing function. This study adopts a case-control experimental design with the following objectives: 1. to explore the incidence of possible sarcopenia in community-dwelling elderly. 2. to investigate the relationship between oral function and possible sarcopenia in community-dwelling elderly using tongue pressure measurements. 3. to understand the correlation between sarcopenia risk in community-dwelling elderly and seven specific genes. 4. to examine the relationship between oral function and seven specific genes in community-dwelling elderly. 5. to investigate the relationship between tongue pressure measurements and the values measured using edible chewing gum. 6. to establish a standard test for evaluating oral chewing function using edible chewing gum. By examining the possible mechanisms of the different genes involved in the causes of sarcopenia, we aim to find prevention strategies that are suitable for participants with different gene types.

Study on the Effect of Edible Mastication Training Colloid Intervention of Oral Muscle Training in Patients of Sarcopenia
The main purpose of this study is to screen middle-aged and elderly (≧ 45 years old) individuals at high risk of sarcopenia and sarcopenia, and to investigate whether sarcopenia can improve dental bite force and tongue pressure in middle-aged and elderly sarcopenia subjects when given edible chewing training colloidal intervention. This trial method will recruit 120 subjects for oral strength training twice a day for 8 weeks, and compare the difference in chewing level between the subjects using the oral strength training intervention and the oral strength training intervention before and after the test. The differences between dental occlusal force and tongue pressure after training were also explored. The experiment mainly evaluated the scales related to dental occlusal force, tongue pressure, and quality of life, because the quality of oral muscles is highly correlated with the diet and lifestyle of the elderly, and also affects the physical health and mobility of the elderly. Although the loss of muscle mass due to aging may be unavoidable, appropriate oral strength training intervention may delay or modify the adverse effects of sarcopenia and improve quality of life in sarcopenia subjects.
