Collaborative Reablement Service Model

The increasing emphasis on reablement reflects a shift in the caring culture of long-term care policies and systems. However, inconsistent findings regarding its effectiveness highlight the need to better understand how reablement interventions work across different care settings, including community-based services. With Taiwan integrating reablement into the National 10-Year Long-Term Care Plan 2.0, identifying effective approaches within Taiwan's long-term care context has become increasingly important. This study aims to examine a collaborative reablement service model. investigators use the data from a county-level claims dataset in which collaborative reablement services were implemented in adult day care centers. Investigators investigate whether participation in collaborative reablement services is associated with improvements in physical and psychological health.

Effectiveness of Implementing a Reablement Model in Community-Based Long-Term Care Centers

This study will examine whether a reablement approach can help people receiving community-based long-term care maintain or improve their independence, daily functioning, and quality of life. Approximately 300 adults from eight long-term care facilities across Taiwan will participate. The 12-week reablement program includes group and individualized activities designed to support mobility, cognitive function, daily activities, and social participation. Participants' physical and cognitive function, daily living abilities, emotional well-being, quality of life, and personal goals will be assessed before and after the program. The study will also include observations and interviews with care providers, participants, and family members to understand their experiences with the program and identify factors that support successful implementation. The findings are expected to help develop a practical reablement model for community-based long-term care in Taiwan and provide guidance for improving care quality, independence, and healthy aging.

Reablement Intervention for Older Adults in Day Care Centers

This study explores the effectiveness of reablement interventions for older adults with declining mobility in adult day care centers and compares them with traditional exercise interventions. In recent years, reablement has gained increasing attention. It is a person-centered approach that emphasizes goal-oriented training through activities of daily living, combined with interdisciplinary collaboration, to enhance individuals' self-care abilities and participation in daily life. In contrast, exercise interventions are typically structured programs focusing on improving muscle strength, balance, and endurance. While both approaches aim to enhance physical function, they differ in philosophy, implementation context, and motivational mechanisms. Reablement emphasizes meaningful, individualized, and context-based activities, which may enhance motivation and adherence, whereas exercise interventions are more standardized and efficient but may lack relevance to daily life, potentially affecting long-term engagement. This study adopts a quasi-experimental design to compare the effects of reablement and exercise interventions on mobility, fear of falling, activities of daily living, and subjective well-being among older adults. It also evaluates the feasibility of implementing reablement in day care centers. Additionally, participants' preferences, attendance, and engagement in different intervention approaches are examined to address the current gap in comparative research. Overall, the findings suggest that incorporating reablement into day care services-through individualized goal setting and interdisciplinary collaboration-can enhance functional performance, quality of life, and independence among older adults. The results also provide important evidence for future long-term care policy and practice, supporting a shift from a care-oriented model to a function-oriented approach, and ultimately promoting aging in place and independent living.

ASSIST 2.0: a Reablement Program for Healthy Ageing

The goal of this study is to continue to develop, implement, and evaluate a unique reablement service, ASSIST 2.0. The project will determine the differences in the reablement service (ASSIST 2.0) compared to regular home care in terms of older adults' performance in daily activities, self-efficacy, perceived health, quality of life, frailty and perceived person-centered approach. The research question is: Can older adults receiving ASSIST 2.0 improve their performance and satisfaction in daily life activities, experience a higher level of self-efficacy, perceived health, quality of life and a person-centered approach? The ASSIST project involves older adults receiving home care, home care assistants, occupational and physical therapists. ASSIST 2.0 reablement consists of the following components: * an intervention aimed at older adults to help them perform daily activities they need and want to do. This will be achieved through optimal support from home care staff, * an on-line education provided by the researchers for all staff in the art and science of reablement, * training and support through mentorship and coaching provided by occupational and physical therapists for home care staff to ensure the proper delivery of reablement.
