Evaluation of the Effect of Smoking on Apelin, Periostin, and High-Sensitivity CRP Levels in Gingival Crevicular Fluid and Serum
Periodontal health is influenced by various local and systemic factors, with smoking being one of the major environmental risk factors. This clinical study is designed to investigate the biochemical profiles of individuals by measuring apelin, periostin, and high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) levels in both gingival crevicular fluid and serum. The participants will be divided into specific study groups based on their smoking status and periodontal condition. Samples of gingival crevicular fluid and serum will be collected under standard clinical protocols, and biomarker concentrations will be analyzed quantitatively using the ELISA (Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay) method to evaluate their potential correlation with periodontal status.

Vape Use Among Younger & Older Smokers
The study aims to recruit 100 current cigarette smokers (50 young adults ages 21-34; 50 older adults ages 35-65) who have tried vaping or are currently vaping (dual users). The study will examine the trajectories in tobacco use (cigarettes and/or ENDS), including the nuanced differences in ENDS use (i.e., detailed device characteristics, user preferences, patterns of use), according to smoker age group.

GLP-1 Receptor Agonists to Decrease Ethanol and CVD Risk in HIV
The goal of this clinical trial is to learn if the drug semaglutide works to reduce alcohol intake among adults living with HIV. The main questions it aims to answer are: 1. Does semaglutide lower the average number of alcoholic beverages participants drink per week? 2. Does semaglutide lower the average number of cigarettes participants smoke per day? 3. Does semaglutide decrease the risk for cardiovascular disease among people living with HIV who drink alcohol and/or smoke tobacco? Researchers will compare the effects of semaglutide to a placebo (a look-alike substance that contains no drug) to see if semaglutide works to lower the alcohol intake among participants each week. Participants will: 1. Take semaglutide for 3 months 2. Visit the research clinic 3 times for checkups and tests 3. Provide blood samples, stool samples, and saliva samples for tests.

University of Michigan COPD Identification Through Lung Cancer Screening Cohort Study - MAP2
The purpose of this study is to obtain new knowledge regarding screening for COPD. This study will use a participant's cancer screening CT scans performed as part of routine health care among current and former smokers at risk for COPD to identify participants who have had a spirometry or will have a spirometry test as part of the study to verify COPD status.

Process and Effect Evaluation of the KickAsh! Intervention
The goal of this evaluation study is to evaluate the KickAsh! intervention, an intervention aiming to prevent smoking initiation in adolescents living in vulnerable socioeconomic situations. This intervention will be implemented in youth social work organisation that offer sport and/or recreational activities for these adolescents. Youth workers will act as implementers of the intervention. The main aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of the intervention, whether it does or does not produce change in the smoking initiation behaviour of adolescents (= effect evaluation). Secondly, the study aims to evaluate the implementation process to generate more understanding concerning why the intervention does or does not produces change. Therefore, it will be investigated how the intervention was implemented, what exactly was implemented, in which context the intervention was implemented... (= process evaluation) For the effect evaluation adolescents will be asked to fill in a questionaire at three time points. For the process evaluations interviews and focus groups will be organised with the adolescents and youth workers respectively. Two groups will participate to this study: one group existing of organisations where the intervention will be implemented (=intervention group), and one group where the intervention will not be implemented (= control group).
