Testing the Effectiveness of the Turkish Nurses' Earthquake Management Model
Sponsor: Sakarya University
Summary
The goal of this randomized controlled trial is to learn whether an education program based on the Turkish Nurses' Earthquake Management Model improves earthquake preparedness and earthquake intervention competence among nurses working in public hospitals in Türkiye. The model was developed from the experiences of nurses who worked during the 2023 Kahramanmaraş earthquakes and covers the pre-earthquake, during-earthquake and post-earthquake phases. The main questions it aims to answer are: Does model-based education increase nurses' earthquake preparedness? Does model-based education increase nurses' earthquake intervention competence? Are these gains maintained three months after the education? Researchers will compare an intervention group, which receives the model-based education, with a control group, which receives no education. Participants in the intervention group will complete a 13-session online video-based education program (about 15-20 minutes per session) through a university learning management system within 30 days. All participants will complete the Earthquake Preparedness Scale for Nurses and the Earthquake Intervention Competence Scale before the education, after the education and at a three-month follow-up.

Education Based on the Turkish Nurses' Earthquake Management Model
An online education program developed according to the three components of the Turkish Nurses' Earthquake Management Model (pre-earthquake, during-earthquake and post-earthquake management) and structured using Bloom's Taxonomy. The program consists of 13 video-based sessions of approximately 15-20 minutes each, delivered through the university's learning management system (SAUPORT). Each video includes two embedded questions that must be answered correctly to continue. Participants were given 30 days to complete all sessions, and completion was monitored through the system's administrator panel.
